Choosing your bridesmaids can be a tricky job, but there are a few tips we can give you to help with your choice. Follow these steps to help you pick the right people:
1. Start with siblings…
Including your siblings in the mix of who will be your bridesmaid is the perfect start, will your sister make the cut? If they are much younger than you then you may decide to have these serve us flower girls but if they are of a similar age and you get on with them, give them the full blown honour.
2. Must be the girls you can rely on…
This is one of the biggest days you will plan, and you need to have a gang of bridesmaids that have got your back when you need it most. The ones you can count on. If you have friends that never call you back, or are always late to plans you may need to consider whether you can rely on them to be there on time for dress fittings etc.
3. Consider personalities…
Think about how your bridal party will get along. Do they all know each other already? Has anyone fallen out before? You need to steer away from conflicts like this, maybe try and get the girls together before hand to see how this goes down.
4. Be mindful of budgets…
Everyone knows that being a bridesmaid can be expensive. Even if the bride is paying for accommodation or chipping in to buy the dress the cost can still rack up with flights, gifts and the hen party. Ensure that your requirements can suit the girls you are asking to be in your bridal party.
5. Don’t ask someone just because they asked you…
Weddings are no time for quid pro quo, you can’t ask someone only because they asked you. The day costs far too much for you too not choose who you want. If there is someone you haven’t spoken to in years, but they feel like they should be considered, you have to be completely honest with them. Honesty is the best policy in this situation. It’s your day, your rules.
